Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Somewhere Unfamiliar handles information used to operate the community and podcast experience.

Information we collect

We may collect account information such as email; profile information such as first name, age or birth year, photo, About Me and “I’d love to”; your relocation journey and the cities you choose for current, moving, or visiting discovery; private messages; blocks and reports; meeting feedback; invites; notification preferences; and technical or anti-abuse signals needed to protect and operate the service.

How we use it

We use this information to create accounts, show relevant people, provide messaging, support trips and moves, deliver notifications, operate safety tools, prevent abuse, understand aggregate product activity, and improve Somewhere Unfamiliar.

Who can see your profile

Member profiles and profile photos are intended for signed-in, qualified members who are permitted to discover one another. Profile photos are stored privately and delivered through time-limited access. We do not use exact live GPS location for member discovery; discovery is based on places and trips members provide.

Private messages and product measurement

Private message content is not routinely copied into founder analytics. We may process messages as necessary to provide the messaging service, protect security, comply with law, or investigate a report when appropriate. Founder metrics are designed around aggregate events such as joins, introductions, two-way conversations, invites, and voluntarily reported meetings.

Service providers

We use service providers to host and operate the product, authenticate accounts, store data, validate real place selections, prevent automated abuse, and, when enabled, deliver email or push notifications. They process information for those functions under their own contractual and legal obligations.

Retention and deletion

You can delete your account through the product. Deletion removes account data subject to backups, legal requirements, security needs, fraud prevention, and limited records reasonably necessary to enforce prior restrictions.

Your choices

You can edit profile information, manage optional notification categories, remove trips, block or report members, and delete your account. Important account or safety communications may still be sent when necessary.

Contact

Privacy questions can be sent through the contact information provided on Somewhere Unfamiliar.
